★Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on ME!!?

It is prudent to never trust those who have deceived us, even if only once? Why or why not??

Update:

Perhaps after the second time, it's shame on BOTH people....

I think It's ok to make mistakes, as long as you learn from them. If the same person/thing fooled you TWICE in the same scenario, you should have been prepared for it. However, that doesn't negate the fact that the other person is still in the wrong to fool you.

If someone fooled me once, I`d cease to have anything to do with them again.

Why look for trouble, they don`t change.

Yes, if someone has proven they can't be trusted you

would have to be cautious of them even if they claim

to have changed. More likely than not, they haven't

I think the idea is to be cautious, not to completely withdraw trust.
