If Iran blocks the strait of Hormuz, and the U.S. and British attack and destroy the Iranian navy, then what?

The US navy (The british navy doesn't have a blue water navy and doesn't really operate in any large extent in that area) will reopen it and if Iran wants to try anything Israel or the US will put them in their place. No country will back Iran if they try to close the strait. And the US will try to keep it contained to us just reopening it.

And their ground forces are large but the last war they were in was with Iraq and they lost. And we beat Iraq in like 2 or 3 months.

Even though the Iranians are doing exercises no navy on earth can match the US navy. Besides we already went toe to toe with them in the 80's and won. Look up operation praying mantis.

Hahahaha, Iran and its non-existent allies. One U.S aircraft carrier has more firepower than the whole Iranian army. In a matter of a few hours, the whole Iranian navy would be destroyed, Israel and Saudi Arabia would probably take the chance to destroy. The european union would probably join in since they get their oil from Iran. America would bomb Irans suspected Nuclear Sites and the troops stationed in Kuwait would probably be moved to Iran. Basically the U.S's navy and airforce are 100x stronger than the Iranians. Our firepower is bigger than theirs. If we capture their capital then we probably occupy their country. And I don't know what's going to happen if the U.S occupies Iran. Probably some people that want democracy (but not really, Democracy in Iraq isn't the best, just a example) and some people would be pissed off that there's people occupying their country and theres probably going to be a guerilla force fighting us.

Should iran decide to engage in naval warfare with the US we would blow them out of the water quite literally. If it escalates to the point of full blown war it would be another long bloody conflict for our men and women in uniform. That's if Irans allies don't come into the picture. Iran has ties to Russia, China, and North Korea. So if you start to connect the dots this could be a very dangerous path and if we end up fighting Irans allies... we could have the largest global conflict in the history of human warfare sitting on our doorstep. WWIII. I know I sound like a conspiracy theorist or some stupid **** but it is one possibility that can not be entirely ruled out.

If the U. S. assaults Iran the mullah's will fall from potential. They understand that and that's the reason they gained't do something that stupid. on the different hand the U. S. has neither supplies, nor will to retaliate. So for now it will be basically a conflict of words. it truly is extra much less costly and safer.
