My computer freezes at a certain point....?

It loads very slowly,15 mins approx.,it starts up and shows avast! antivirus saying the system is unsecured on bottom right.Takes 15 mins to load the Yahoo messenger and show the two screens signifying the internet connection.Any thing related to avast won't load, like scanning,or trying to fix the unsecured problem.

Windows XP,1 GB of RAM, 3.00 GHz.

Any help could be useful,thanks.

Uninstall the Avast... I'm a pro computer user... You don't need anti-virus

All u need is a USB security software and Microsoft essential security which you can download for free

And... Go to start menu/Run/ and type "msconfig" then go to "Startup" tab in new window and look for unnecessary programs which run at the beginning... If you don't know the program in the list, leave it... it might be essential

one more thing: try cleaning up: Start menu/Accessories/System tools/Disk clean up

try cleaning up your computer, throw away files you don't need, and try to defrag your hdd

the less your pc needs to load the faster it goes
