How does infect work with mtg?

I understand how it deals damage in the for of -1/-1 counters, but for each counter on a creature for example, Say I attack with a 2/3 creature with infect. The blocking creature is also 2/3. What exactly do the two -1/-1 counters do? Do they now make his 2/3 creature pretty much a 0/1? or what? I am not sure how the counters actually play a role next turn or in terms of combat. What if the creature was a 2/2 and with the two -1/-1 counters I infect it with does that just destroy it because it would be a 0/0? does a creature get destroyed with a certain number of counters on it? I'm so confused with this whole ability. Please help!!!!!

here's the stuff you need to know :)

-infect deals damage to creatures in the form of -1/-1 counters

-a -1/-1 counter on a creature is permanent

    -a -1/-1 counter reduces a creature's stats

-when a creature ha 0 toughness it dies

-infect creatures deal damage to players in the form of poison counters

-when a player has 10 poison counters they lose the game. it doesn't matter how much life they have left

Source(s): I used to have an infect deck :D (then all my friends made them so I made anti-infect to combat them...)

At the end of the battle phase the blocking creature would have 2 -1/-1 counters on it making it a 0/1.

    Infect is permanent.

When a creature is lowered to 0 toughness or less outside of the battle phase, then it;s out right into the graveyard.

im still new to the game but if a monster has infect, instead of normal damage they do a -1/-1 debuff. i say its a debuff because thats the only way i can remember. infect damage dont disapear during the end phase. so if you have a monster with 2/3 and they block an infect monster with 1/1, then your monster is now a 1/2 unless you have a card that removes the infect counters. like the basic rule of magic, if your monster has 0 block then they die. if you dont block an infect monster, then you get a infect counter, and they dont disapear, unless you have a card that says so. once you get 10 infect counters, you lose
