Would this be copyright?

Question

I don't know if I've phrased the question right so sorry about that but basically I'm entering this competition where you design a t shirt for a riding school and if your design wins it will be printed on the t shirt and sold. It's to celebrate 50 years anniversary so I (can't draw) found a picture of a horse head on the internet, when I view full image it has some writing over it, so I copied it and then added like stars and writing to it, but if it won and went on the back of all these t shirts would i get in trouble, the competition says 'design' it doesn't say 'draw'

You would certainly be in breach of copyright. If the owner of the copyright found out you used his/her image without permission you could be sued.

Every picture is covered by copyright.  If there isn't some explicit license allowing you to use it, then making a derivative work would violate the owner's copyright.  You need to find a picture that is either in the public domain or released with a Creative Commons license.

If the picture has a water mark then yes, it will be copyright but if it has no sign of the copyright symbol even on the description when you hover over the picture in google images then no it isnt copyright. I do media studies so i have to pay extra attention to what is copyright and what isnt xx  (and the water mark may be that faint writing over it)

if you want to use others picture please make sure you get permit from the owner. I recommending you to visit devianart and get some picture from them. at that site you'll find many artist selling and sharing for free of their works. and get doubt, their picture is much better than 'usual' picture you can found using google images.
