If girls wear pants, why can't men wear skirts?

Good question..."Why can't men wear skirts"? They obviously can and have been doing so for the last few thousand years. The skirt was a "perfected garment" ideally suited for men (obviously more friendly to male anatomy than pants). Men have worn skirts far longer than women and skirts are still an option for men in 70% of the world. It is just the Western Society that still has "hang ups" left over from the "Puritanical Victorian Era". Women have finally got past those hang ups and only 50 years ago finally adopted men's pants as an option but men have found pants suitable for riding horses and around machinery long ago (industrial age) and have been slow with opening their minds like women have.

Leading clothing designers ARE designing skirts for men and say there is not one reason for men not to wear skirts. They even take it further saying all clothing is UNISEX except for a few sex specific items like a bra and jock strap. Clothing doesn't make one gay or all women would be considered gay wearing pants! Men are brought up with this "macho" idea about skirts are for women yet a "sexually secure" guy who tries on a short skirt on a hot day instead of shorts will not go back to shorts! No additional crotch seams, ease of movement, coolness and especially no tubes of cloth dragging over ones legs is a BIG SENSATION not forgotten but it will take a non homophobic person to discover this. Women should be aware of this as to avoid hooking up with a controlling homophone.

Also some answering here don't have a clue about life. Guess they are kids. A kilt IS a Skirt by definition. It is just a particular kind of skirt that is tartan, hot, heavy and costly yet many women's skirts work perfectly for men as is without modification. Best in my opinion are "Cargo Mini Skirts" because they are plain, have belt loops, many pockets (practical) and look better than shorts.

Check out www.ebay.com and search for cargo skirts. Some are perfect and cheap.

It takes a sexually secure (non homophobic) guy to rock a skirt before they are vogue and they will be soon as more and more guys discover them.

Sooo your answer is YES they can wear skirts (no laws against them just as there are no laws against women in pants). You just have to be a real guy and and brave enough to do it and it is likely others will follow. No one wants to be first...

PS: Brad Pitt was so impressed with skirts he started wearing them at home and made a proclamation that men would be wearing skirts within a year. That never turned out.. men have harder heads than he thought but on the up side women generally think a guy in a skirt is "intriguing" and he will get more action than the local jock for sure... So it's all in your heads!

Lots of people in America don't realize just how important it is for a man to wear what is comfortable and healthy for them like skirts. That means wearing a skirt has major league health benefits. It is much cooler, his tackle gets to breath which is a bonus for any female he's dating as well as for those wishing to have chidren. For the female she gets to date someone who looks stylish, with sexy shaven legs in hose and skirts are very easy to maintain for both the male and the female as a couple. A skirt will weather longer than a pair of pants in any climate or environment.

I've seen a LOT of couples out there wearing skirts around together to beaches, malls, restaurants, clubs, museums, airports, theaters and a plethora of other places and it makes complete sense when you think about it. It's healthy, is comfortable, she gets the benefit of something that actually matches her attire and looks sexy. What's not to like ?

It's to do with social norms and gender stereotypes. Masculinity vs femininity - a female can still look 'female' whilst wearing clothes that guys wear as well, whereas if a guy wore female clothes he would lose his gender identity. Therefore in our society it will be odd to see a guy in a skirt..

Pants are not exclusively meant for guys, so we could wear them. But skirts are made for girls only. A girl wearing pants doesnt makes her guy appearence, but if guy wearing skirt he is shemale.
