How many motor/transmission mounts does my car have?

I have a 2001 Volkswagen Golf 1.8L Turbo, and I need to know how many motor and transmission mounts it has. Do all cars have the same number of mounts?

Update:

Automatic.

I'm not absolutely positively sure about that particular car, but most front wheel drive cars will have one at the front of the engine (not the car), another at the rear of the engine or transmission, and another attached to the side of the engine that faces the front of the car, and the other end of that one attached to the radiator core support. This is the one that goes bad the most often, and is generically referred to as a "dog-bone", because of it's shape. The first 2 basically hold the engine up, but the dog-bone keeps the engine from twisting from the torque when you step on the gas, especially when in gear. If your engine is "rolling" forward or backward in the engine compartment, that's usually the one you need. Put the car in gear, and with the brakes on, give it a little gas. Have someone watch to see if the engine tries to roll, or if one end or the other lifts up.

a fast look should tell you all you need. if it's worn, it may be needed. the tranny mounts could very well be bad. a bad motor mount will make the others go bad to eventually. if you can't tell by looking . have someone start it, put it in gear, hold the brake and give it alittle gas while you watch the engine. if it moves alittle you're fine (it's supposed to have some give) but it it moves alot, this guy might not have been trying to sucker you.

    You car has 3 mounts.

One on the engine(passenger side) One one the transmission(driver side), and one in the middle that is attached to the subframe.

The engine and trans mounts are both 2 parts. If you need to replace either of them, be sure to replace the bolts.
