Questions about my Puppy Lab?
My parents got me a chocolate lab puppy for christmas (his name is bo). Since its my dog my parents are giving me most of the responsibility (only when im not home like when im at school). He picks up really quick. He already knows how to sit and when i say "Kennel" he goes right into his kennel. But i just had a few questions.
1. When can i start having him around the house 24/7 without worrying about him staining the carpet?
2. Can he sleep on my bed with me at night?
3. Why do i need to take him out a half hour after i feed him?
4.When should i give him treats?
5. How long a day should i train him for commands? (sit, come, stay, shake ect.)
Lots of information would be great!

1. Once you have 'potty' trained him, and he goes fluently then you should know this. You have to have trust in him:P!!
2. Yes he can sleep with you at night. But before you do ask your partner (you probs don't have a partner, opps)if they are alright with it. Be sure your not allergic to dogs, and also give the blankets a good wash once a week!
3. When they eat they normally need to do business outside half an hour or so later.
4: Give him treats when he does something very good! Teach him commands and when he takes a small step give him a treat! Also teach him not to bite and when he licks you give him a treat. Make sure you don't give too many treats though! They might think they can get it any time!
5. I think maybe half an hour is enough. Do not fill their brains up with too much or they won't remember it all! Just teach him the commands slowly, and you will be on a roll! After all we go to school for 12 years, very s l o w learning. But it works!
6. I almost forgot don't forget to get him fixed when he is older. He will be more laid back and more focused on you. Don't worry he won't put on weight, everyone says that but they really don't. It is a lack of exercise and poor diet that contributes to weight gain. If you get him fixed you will decrease his chances of getting prostrate cancer, and other canine illnesses.
Good Luck with your Lab!!!

Izzy , first of all the very best with Bo. I am sure you are so responsible and you will bring him up a good doggy.
To answer your question I am hoping Bo is at least 4 months old since you bought him at the time of Christmas.
Be patient with him he is just a puppy yet if he is still not potty trained be consistent with the methods you are following. If he is already house broken well then great. Just make sure that you kennel him while you are not able to provide him your full attention. Since he is a puppy even though he is potty trained he may not able to hold himself not more than 3 to 4 hrs max. So whenever he has an accidents please remember that it was not to displease you but just because he was not able to hold it. So be patient and consistent with him. He will get there as you want him to be when his is little grown up until then praise him a lot for whatever he is doing right.
You can make him sleep with you when you are confident that he will wake you up for his potty breaks. Until then please don’t take chance since if he has accidents the fist pain is to clean the bed and the next it would lead all your hard work so far in jeopardy.
It is advisable to take him for a walk half an hour post to his feeding schedule because he tends to relive himself when he had just eaten. This also helps you to in cultivate a routine in him.
Give him treats when he behaves well of if he responds to your commands. You can also give him treats to make any experience positive to him. Like while walking him or while medicating him or any such experience which he potentially afraid off or new to him.
Make sure you have enough break at in between training while he is a puppy or he might get bored. Train him 15 minutes 4 times a day in between his plays session. So he associates training with fun.
All the very best again with Bo. Hope this helps.

1. When he is house trained
2. Yes just not by your head
3. He needs to poo and pee
4. When he does what you want (positive reinforcement)
5.15-20 minute sessions twice a day is plenty, mix everything up a bit, don't be repetitive or he won't want to do anything
6. Your parents need to be actively participating in his house training, if not, you will never have a house trained dog. Make sure to get him fixed around 5-6 months as this will prevent any dominance problems, marking problems, and many health problems in the future.
You should also be taking him out every 20 minutes until he learns to ask to go out. Hang some bells from the doorknob and everytime he goes outside to go potty (not when you are taking him out for a walk or playtime) ring the bells

Nope! Both have the precise equal temperament when you consider that they are the equal breed. Golden Retrievers alternatively will have distinct temperaments when you consider that they're one more breed. This is like announcing that a Pug that's black will probably be meaner than a Pug that's tan. It's simply no longer real! I had been round each and every colour of lab (besides silver). I realize a chocolate lab who's the sweetest boy I've ever noticeable! He's particularly playful and LOVES me. Whenever I see him his complete butt shakes as he wags his tail, his tongue hangs out, and he jumps up all over the place the location. I have by no means noticeable a change among him and my cousin's black lab. The black lab does the equal precise factor while he sees my mother. (He adored her!) I by no means noticed competitive traits in both besides slightly within the black one while gambling tough tug-of-struggle. (I by no means performed tug-of-struggle with the chocolate one for the reason that he used to be more youthful and I did not see him always making him see me extra as a playmate. Never a well thought to play that sport with a "playmate"!) So it particularly does not topic. But I might say get a black lab when you consider that there is a factor referred to as the "Black Dog Syndrome". For a few intent persons shy clear of black puppies and they do not get followed. Some persons suppose they suppose sub-consciously that they're like black cats-unfortunate and imply. Which is not real in any respect however it is going down! So get a black one! Good good fortune!
