Why won't my videos play smoothly?
I have a digital camera which records in hd and has an hd memory card. However, when I have uploaded the videos to my computer, the videos keep skipping and are not smooth. They are smooth when I play them using the camera. What is wrong? or what can I do? Thanks
the folders are in mp4 format, and they default play with quicktime, but I have tried with windows media player too. Same problem on both

It possible that your computer is not fast enough to play the files... but there are few things you can try first.
Are you playing the files directly from the camera, memory card or have you transferred them to the hard drive? Transferring to the hard drive will give them the best performance. If you have the files still on the camera - try copying them to the hard drive and play them from there. You don't need to delete them from the camera - just make a copy of them if that is what you are comfortable with.
Another reason is that the player software you are using to play the video might not be able to play them properly. I have a Kodak Playsport HD camera and I get varying results if I play the files with different media players.
The best one I have found is VLC Player.
My videos don't play so well in Windows Media Player. I also got some software with the camera that plays them fairly well - but I found VLC to be the best performance.
If VLC still doesn't work...
Try updating your video codecs. The video codecs are the actual software that decode the video signal and presents it as an image on your screen. You can get a free codec pack from the following web site:
http://www.free-codecs.com/k_lite_codec_pack_downl...
Be aware that K-Lite reconfigures how some video files play - so be aware of that as it may alter some of your settings if you play lots of different video files. You can always remove K-Lite if you don't like it. K-Lite also installs a small player called "Media Player Classic" which is a cut down Media Player.
I'd recommend going for the "BASIC" codec pack which is on the first links on the above page - but there is also a STANDARD and FULL codec pack that contain many different codecs for lots of different types of video files.
Lastly - think about upgrading parts of your computer - adding more memory or upgrading the graphics card as this often helps with video performance issues.

The ability of your computer to smoothly play HD videos depends on its hardware.
If your computer is a bit long in tooth (old), then it may have a problem playing HD videos. HD videos require fast CPUs or multi-core CPUs to reliably playback videos in HD.
If you have a pretty decent graphics card, the newest ones can accelerate some HD videos for smoother playback without taxing the CPU too much.
Also, some software are better at playing back HD videos without as much CPU time as others.
I use Media Player Classic and it has built-in H.264 hardware acceleration.

It's fairly lightweight and doesn't eat a lot of resources. VLC is pretty good too, though I don't like it's user interface.

Could be the computers processor or graphics card that is not able to run the HD graphics
