When I called my daughter last night my telephone number came up as another telephone number entirely. I?

looked up the number on the internet and it's one of those scam numbers. You know those people that call you to try and scam you out of money. The number was 206-708-2804 and said Washington. I live in New York state. How can this happen? Is this something I need to worry about?

    strange problem...

try dialing 1-800-444-4444 and see what number is read back to you... it should be your phone number, if it is anything else you need to call your local phone service provider..

if this has only happened one time, and the above ANAC number gives you the proper number that you are calling from it would be difficult to trace back where the problem is coming from - either with your phone provider sending out the wrong caller ID information, or with her provider sending her phone the wrong information, or somewhere inbetween...

you can also check your outgoing caller ID by calling 1-804-222-1111 - but this is not a toll free call, it will cost you long distance charges if you do not get free calling to the 804 area code..

I have had a similar problem in the past, It is possible to purchase a incoming call reciever so you can see the persons number who's ringing, however I expect they will probably be doing what someone did to us and putting 141 in front of the number so it blocks it. If you can get the number this way you can give it to the police who can trace the originator of the call. The alternative is to change your number and go ex directory which is what we had to do eventually. I dont mean to worry you but it is concerning that someone seemingly without motive is harrassing you and your daughter. I would make the police and neighbours aware of the situation and seek support from talk talk.

She is clearly doing something she isnt supposed to be doing. Or maybe doesnt want you to find her? She could be drinking or worse!
