You can cancel in the 14 day period if you wish v- remember it is now illegal for a car to be taxed and not insured.

As you are not going to be able to give proof of NCB they will either cancel or send you a bill for what they knocked off in error.

Usually, the insurer will allow a bit of time for you to provide the NCD proof. Generally around 4 weeks. If after those 4 weeks, the insurer has not received the proof, they will reduce the NCD level on your policy from the date you took it out. This will adjust your premium, and they will either send you a bill for the difference, or if you pay in instalments, they will add the charge on to your instalments.

If you then do not pay the bill or increased instalments, they will usually send you a cancellation notice for non-payment. They generally give you a short period of notice, and it will explain this in the cancellation rights in your policy booklet. That period of notice is to allow you to seek alternative insurance.

Usually, if you owe money to an insurer, they will not accept any more business from you until it is paid. Furthermore, some companies now ask you if you have ever had a policy cancelled due to non-payment and will not take you on as a new customer if you have.

I work for an insurance co and this is a common error that customers make.

NCD can only be used on one vehicle at a time. Or on once policy if a multi car policy has been taken.

Best off checking with the post office the additional premium you would need to pay as you do not have the NCD, if your not able to afford it then cancel the policy. If they do not receive the proof they will invoke cancellation and this will affect future motor policies such as increasing premium and only being able to pay in one lump sum if your use to paying monthly that is.

Have you sold the other car? If so your NCD can be carried over to your new vehicle - just get the renewal quote from you previous insurer. You can only have 1 car qualifying for the NCD

Your policy will be invalid if you state anything that is false in your application. If you have told them how long you have been isured for and the date of any prior claims then they will know what NCD to apply.
