Is there affordable day care?

My wife and I will be having our first child this fall and we are trying to figure out where to go for Day Care... we are being told by people that it's $200 - $300 a week! Has anyone found any places that's a little cheaper than that?

The average cost of day care in the US is $972 a month. That's about $225 a week.

At the price of infant care .... mom many times is better off staying at home and working some part time job opposite of her husbands shift. And as for wanting cheap care, this is your most precious gift in the world. Cheaper day care centers hire someone with a high school diploma and little training to care for up to 6 babies by herself.

Source(s): em, good for you. But can you care for four babies that are under 6 months old for 8 hours a day by yourself? this is typical in most day care rooms. In our state, many baby rooms have five babies under one year of age cared for by one person. I am implying that you are paying $$$$ money for child care and getting little in return. Our state requires infants to have a 'curriculum' and 'day plans'. How many with only a HS diploma know infant development and how to plan a day to provide the most enriching environment per developmental level?

yepp thats about right for an infant. theyre expensive to put in daycare! you could try to find a family member but other than that youre going to have to deal with daycare prices!

Bobbi: I have a high school diploma and have been taking care of kids by myself since I was 16. I think Im more qualified then most of the people who are certified. a certification means nothing it just looks better.
