Why aren't kids PAID to go to school?

The work teacher's do:

-wake up early 5 days a week

-work for about 8 hours

-homework at night, such as grading papers and making lesson plans

The work student's do:

-wake up early 5 days a week

-work for about 8 hours

-after school stuff, like sports

-homework

STUDENTS DO PRETTY MUCH THE SAME AMOUNT OF WORK, EXCEPT, OH YEAH, WE DON'T GET PAID.

Sorry for the caps, but it just bugs me! Why aren't we paid to go and sit in front of adults for 8 hours everyday??? Sounds like torture to me -___-

Update:

Sorry for getting so dramatic... I just don't like school so having to go to it is just kind of agonizing...

The adults are paid to do the work because they are technically into overtime. They've been through elementary, middle, high school and college already. They're ADULTS, and a STILL in school. They have to know their information well enough to make sure you're able to learn. This is called a job, something you're prepared for in this level. Considering, you're similar to an intern.

Student's don't get paid because you are already a financial burden. There is nothing about your presence in school that the school can profit from. You use their electricity, you use their water and bathroom facilities. Education is a privilege that not all children had growing up in this country. It is FREE, there for you are paid NOTHING. If you were paid to do your work, what is the point of going anywhere besides school? It isn't right for teachers to give (knowledge) and for you to TAKE (knowledge) and be paid the same as them.

Its the law that minors under the age of 17 go to a school of some sort

and gain an education to have a basics of reading, writing, math and science.

The people that become teachers are under no such law, they gain their education

so they can get a job and provide support for the families.

That is your goal eventually too.

If you think its bad now wait until you move out and get a job enjoy the years you have now because going to school wi teach you the basics you need to survive in the real world, you do get paid because its a service they provide and seeing as there is no real contribution to the economy from your self and you are learning things you never knew and will actually benefit you i would say that is why although there are lots of reasons why

Except you only do your share of home work, while the teacher has to go over 25-30 sets of homework just for your class. If they're a highschool teacher, they'd have to go over homework and plan lessons for 4,5 or 6 different classes.

the act of going to school contributes nothing to anyone except possibly yourself, if you choose to take advantage of the opportunity. Definitely shouldn't get paid money for doing nothing. School is basically daycare where we put our immature offspring so they will stay out of trouble for at least part of the day. We hope that they will learn something while there that will help them become someone that will contribute to society and earn money by doing useful work. Until then, their net contributions are negative and really, they should be paying for school rather than getting paid for it.

In your attitude, I should get paid for going to christmas dinner at my relatives. It is work for me. Or paid for food shopping, I hate that and it is as much work for me as it is for the people getting paid to serve me.

Because they don't need to be. They get fed, clothed and housed by their parents. Who do you think feeds, clothes and houses your teachers?
