Do I need a visa to travel to India as a British citizen?

Okay, so I'm a British citizen and am thinking of going to India for a couple of months to volunteer there. Will I need to get a visa for that? I've looked online but it's nit very clear... Help?

in case you intend to backpack and be a international traveller then WHY are you going to FLY?... in case you particularly ARE an adventurer (which I doubt) then TAKE THE practice... it is low priced and it is there... it purely takes longer... yet international travellers do not techniques that.
