Do I need to forget him? Is it really hopeless?

So I've been crushing on this boy for a year and a half now. He's a classmate and although I've been trying hard to get closer (asking him about our next test, texting him), somehow it just didn't work. So when we got into eleventh grade, I confessed my feelings to him since we got into different majors and I figured that I wouldn't get into the same class as him anyway.

I called him since I'm too shy to tell him in person and yet not THAT shy to text him. I told him that I've liked him since the start of out tenth grade and he replied with "errr... okay..?"

I was mortified! But it hurted me more when I figured the real reason was that he was crushing on another girl already. But now this girl doesn't seem to like him back, and seems to be taken already...

It's been 6 months and I can't seem to forget him. I still like him, I really do. Do you think I should go for it? Or forget him? How?

This answer is gonna suck but i have been here before. Im a guy and there was a girl that i liked for for years and she wasn't interested but she liked another guy and he liked another girl its was a long cycle. In the end i had enough nothing was happening and it was getting to my head so i decided the drama wasn't worth it and cut everything loose surprisingly i felt relieved that it was all over and i could focus on finding someone else and since i learn t from this mistake it wont happen again. If the guy inst into you then hes not worth your attention im sure there's another guy who is into you.
