What do you think of Metallica's music after the self titled album back in 1991?

After they came out with their 1991 cd, many have refused to buy any of their albums after that. What do you think of their latest stuff?

I haven't really liked much of their stuff since then, but I agree that it's important for bands to change and evolve at least somewhat, or run the risk of turning into something like ACDC, who have released the exact same album about 27 times. Granted, some people enjoy that, but I tend to think those are people who have all the musical taste of a small, ceramic soapdish.

The last Metallica album I bought was Load and that was a piece of garbage. I've listened to everything they've released since their self titled and none of it was any good. I don't think they still have the same interests and drive they had when they released good music.

Metallica has gone downhill ever since 1991, They havent had the same sucess they had back in the days, and i mean that as far as music. Its not that they died after 1991, its just the the whole grunge movement came in and people began listening to that. As far as their music today some of it is ok, it seems like the lost thier balls to be honest. They want to be more commercial now than the music the used to make.

  • It's good, but there is a reason why they only play one maaaybe two songs at each of their concerts from the Load, Reload and St. Anger, cause they're weak!! death magnetic was better but no where near their first 4.

Dont listen to people who bash them or say they suck. Those people bash them because they know they are the best and dont know what they are talking about.

Their first 5 albums along with Death Magnetic are masterpieces.

Load had a few good songs. Reload was brilliant.

In my opinion, Load and ReLoad were... okay. St. Anger sucked (except for the title track), Death Magnetic was good. The fact that they were able to put out an excellent record right after putting out a terrible one (both different musical styles, of course) tells me that they should stick to the thrash metal sound that made them famous to begin with if they want to win a better reception from their fanbase.

But I don't think they sold out at all, I think they merely evolved as musicians and I say that should be pretty obvious. With The Black Album, they tried a style of metal similar to bands like Soundgarden and Alice in Chains. With Load and ReLoad, they flirted with hard rock. With St. Anger, they tried a more modern metal sound, eliminating guitar solos and changing the tone of the drums. I see all that as just them experimenting and trying out different sounds. It may not always be good, but I don't see it as them being sell-outs.

Some of it is good, some of it so-so, and some of it is downright terrible. I'm probably gonna get some thumbs down for this, but I think it's good that they have been trying different things on each album after the Black Album instead of making Master of Puppets over and over again. I suspect that's what happens with a lot of artists when their fans no longer think they're God. Once they get to facing their own success and having to create the magic over and over again, eventually fans turn on them. But they're still around.

Load and Death Magnetic are far and away better listens than their self titled lp. I hate the Black Album.

The rest (St Anguish and ReLoad) are rubbish.

  • St. Anger & Lulu sucked.

    The rest was ok.

Mostly Terrible, but I did like Death Magnetic, I think it came out in 2009. That's about it.
