How to do a fantasy baseball draft?

There is no normal order but most people pick position players before pitchers. The best way is to join a public league and just do it. You can do mock drafts in advance to see what other people are doing.

It depends on the size of your league & the number pick you get..

Different people have different strategies,but I like to pick offense with my 1st 5 to 6 picks taking the best available hitter,but focusing mainly on putting together a solid infield.If you take pitchers & more then 1 outfielder in the 1st 5 rounds your infield could be miserable.But that doesn't mean take Jeter over Ellsbury,production trumps position scarcity.

Utility slots are also important,don't put off getting a utility guy too long.You can put a player from any position there,and I like filling it with a big power hitter,or big base stealer.

After you have at least half of your starting offense in tact I'd start gathering starting pitchers & closers.Get a lot of pitchers & closers;And in fact I would use all of your back up slots for pitchers & closers.This would increase your strength in Ks,Ws,and saves.

If your league has 5 offensive categories & 5 pitching categories you should strategise on how to be strong in a small majority of the total categories.Because if you plan on being strong in every category you usually end up being mediocre in all of them.Like,for me,I don't worry much about B.A.,whip,or ERA.I'd rather build my team around the other categories.And if you're strong in 7 of the 10 categories,your team will be beast mode.

I suggest once you get a team before your draft enlarge your pre-draft player rankings list to the max your league can draft,save it & print it.Then divide the players into groups of however many teams are in your league to represent rounds.Then high-lite players in each round you like for an excellent (free) draft night cheat sheet.
