What is the best LCD Television?
Planning to buy a LCD television. Which one would give the best value for money?
LED TVs annoy me. They're too bright. :)
Size depends on the deals. I am fine with 40" but if I can get a bigger one for the same price, well, why not?

Just to clarify - the TVs that are being talked about are all LCD TVs. The difference is how the LCD panel is lit. One way, and a way that is quickly going away, is CCFL. The other way, and the way that give a much more vivid, brilliant picture, is LED lighting. With LEDs, you can have it edge-lit or back-lit. Back-lit is better, but more expensive. The best-of-the-best are TVs that are backlit with localized dimming, giving the viewer the best contrast and truer blacks.
So, the best picture quality for LCD panels are LED backlit, with localized dimming. You'll also find that's the most expensive. Next best picture quality is LED edge-lit LCDs.
Check out the reviews before you go shopping and see which ones are top rated. Then, do yourself the biggest favor you can do: Go to retail and have a side-by-side shootout with your finalists. Let your eyes decide which you like better. As I work for Sony, I hope it's Sony :)
During your shootout demonstration, make sure the TVs are using the same source content (don't be afraid to bring your own movies or games), are on the same settings, and using the same wiring. Be a little wary of your retail sales associate - they are often incented with their best interests in mind, not yours. After that, go with what your eyes tell you.
Good luck!

LCD (liquid crystal display) is a good type but LEDs are basically the improved version. i would go with an led. life span of a LED is up to 100,000 hours LCD is 60,000. LED dont run as hot as a LCD and they have better color and are lighter. but if you go with regular LCD get 1080p/high HZ 120 would be good/ high contrast and any name brand. sony, samsung, sharp, toshiba, philips, vizio, LG ect

LCD stands for liquid crystal display. now a days there are LED (light emitting diode) Tv's are available, these have longer life. if you are planning to buy the best tv with all features then buy smart tv and 3d and hd ready, usb movie with multiple format these are the salient features you should look for

Same lifespan for LCD/LED, which are the same except for the backlighting on the LED, making it slimmer and lighter... I like Samsung by far.!! What size..??? If under 40 inches, a 720p will be sufficient...
