As a vet tech, I deal with animal euthanasia on a daily basis. It is simultaneously the best and worst part of my job. Death is always hard, there's no doubt about it. But being able to control the circumstances so that everything is in order (families have been able to say their goodbyes, wills have been completed, etc.) helps make things a little easier. But what matters more than anything else is being able to alleviate suffering. That's why we're in the medical field to begin with.

The only con I can see is the possibility of ending a life that could have been saved. Every so often we hear about medical miracles, people that manage to survive despite the odds, going on to live incredibly happy and healthy lives. However, if physician assisted suicide was legalized, many of these people would not have had the chance to make their shocking recoveries.

Pro: relieve suffering for the incurable and cost saving.

Con: the.cost saving might become more of a factor than suffering or curability.

The most obvious one is that places with already well established death clinics like Switzerland, for example - they become the go-to jurisdictions. Not that it's a slam-dunk. MDs at these clinic don't approve every application. One must be terminal and clearly suffering with no hope of relief. ... Interesting how many of us qualify already, no?
