What is your opinion about the Eucharistic congress?
As most of you probably know, Ireland is to host this religious event in June. The last time we hosted it, in 1932, Dev was in power. The republic was obviously a very catholic country back then, and through the decades our country has now changed. So I have two questions, 1. considering the troubling (to say the least) developements that have taken place in regards to the catholic church here in ireland, how do you think the congress will be received by those who are not devout catholics? and 2. how do you feel about the event yourself? will you be participating?.
Thanks for answering!

I'm pleased it is being held in Ireland, but for totally the wrong reasons.
All those foreigners who will visit to take part will spend their much needed money in our shops, pubs, B&Bs, hotels etc.

It's basically a private event for Catholics, and I'm happy with that. It makes it none of my business. The troubling developments you mention also happened in other denominations, but there hasn't been the same song-and-dance for them. Without softening the seriousness of those developments, really the same intensity should have been shown to the other cases. And I won't be participating.

No indeed I will not be involved. It is a hideous thing for the republic to get on with I thought they had "moved away" from the catholic church. It is still obvious from reading online and in the news that this catholic society is prevalent down there. This is making roi's image even worse than it is now. Once again I gladly say it reduces the chances of a united Ireland once more! I feel that it is a pathetic thing to do because i believe that Jesus is not present in the communion bread and it is to attract converts.

I think it will help people put their focus on things other than a broken economy, debts and rising taxes. If only for a few days, it'll help people see things for what they are.
I'll participate to a degree; I won't go to Dublin to do something I can do here though...

Who cares?
If you want to participate, then participate.
If you don't, then don't.
Not everything has to be turned into a national navel-gazing contest.

I have no opinion, because I didn't know it was on, and I imagine not that many people care or are even interested.
