Skin care acne advice?
I'm 19 years old and have always had terrible problems with acne. I recently got cetaphil cleanser and a generic brand apricot scrub. how often should I use both of them? my skin gets dry sometimes in certain areas, but it gets oily at the same time especially during the day when I have makeup on (no im not going to stop wearing makeup but if you know of a nice INEXPENSIVE brand I can try, I'll be grateful. I currently use covergirl). I'm afraid to ever put anything on my face (such as lotions for dryness etc) because I'm afraid it'll cause more breakouts. any tips on that too?
I used to be on acne medication (minocycline) and it caused me to develop ICH (intracranial hypertension). so medication is a no-no.

Any kind of facial wash, you're leaving something toxic behind, it's not a matter of convenience, it's a billion dollar business that can do more harm than good to your acne.
Take a shower everyday, use washcloth to exfoliate and bath & body wash. Hydrogen peroxide does wonders for acne. Visit their website for more tips & other uses. ONLY $1.
Acne medication could worsen what ever allergies you have, so instead of trying out one product after another, you're actually spreading it around.
The less products you use, the better for your skin. Use a bath & body wash like Suave, Irish Spring, Dove Body & Face wash in the shower, use a washcloth. Treat your face like the rest of your body, take a shower everyday or wash your face everyday.
The secret is keeping your face clean and oil-free. I also don't use liquid on my face for anything, and very little moisturizer, not even a dime size. Since my face is not dry. Good skin also comes from your good genes. Increase your fresh fruits & vegetables 3-5 servings per day. And programmed your mind to do this day after day, for the rest of your life.
The beauty industry is a billion dollar business, they know acne is everyone's problem, but instead of saying soap is drying for you, they have to invent an acne product that can worsen the skin as MANY TEENAGERS have experienced during hormonal change, but as you get older those are completely a waste of time & money!
Sometimes just the oil on your face from make up and lotions, even from your hair can travel to your face causing acne to come out. Others, from stress, hormones & diet or foods.

You need INTERNAL medication. Go to a dermatologist and ask for
a powerful antibiotic.. Tetracycline is good stuff. Used for stomach
ulcers. Used in my family at your age for severe acne.
Skin washes with salicylic acid are good. Sea Breeze was maybe
the first. Lots of copycats, even the Dollar stores have lotions with Sal. Acid.

The cause of acne is due to inflammation. Pimples, blackheads and whiteheads on the surface of the skin are the results of oil produced by the skin getting trapped in the oil ducts. It is found in the forehead, chests, elbows and back. Generally it appears during teens and it has to go on its own. However it is better to treat with natural herb. One of the herbs used is turmeric.
I take turmeric supplements instead.

Let's first start with what your skin type is (since its always important when looking for the right products to use!). It sounds to me like you have what is called "combination skin". This usually means you have parched cheeks and an oily T-zone(forehead, nose area). This unfortunately can be super frustrating when trying to find the right products since the skin has two separate needs. I suggests you prioritize the oily area since oily skin tends to be more difficult to tackle and requires more aggressive treatment than dry skin. Where it oily, use an oil-removing cleanser and follow with an alcohol-based toner on the whole face. Finish off by applying a water-based moisturizer on dry patches only. A daily chemical exfoliant (such as gels that include fruit acids, versus grant scrubs) will also help make your skin smoother and reduce clogged pores.
But you also have acne-prone skin which [acne] is also a skin type. We've all heard how bad procrastination is (with anything). But, it is especially bad with skin care. The thing is, we all wait until usually the acne has already surfaced to treat it. The overall solution is to prevent it. Example, eating chocolate won't cause you to break out the following day; pores are deep therefor it takes time for bacteria to build-up before the pimple becomes inflamed, swollen and red on the surface. It takes roughly 2-3 weeks before a pimple will appear, so using a preventative product is best and should be applied every day all over your face. Followed by a second spot treatment product applied directly over visible ('elevated') acne.
Since you wear makeup, it is also highly important that you wash you face every night before you goto bed, making sure to use a makeup remover. When looking for moisturizers, make sure it has an SPF in it as well. Below I will list products that are prett inexpensive and also home remedies for you to make it even more budget-friendly! Any other skin-care questions you may have feel free to email me!
• BIORÈ combination skin balancing cleanser ($8 at Walgreens)
• OLAY 2-in-1 daily facial cloths (they're dual textured so the smooth side gently breaks up dirt, oil, and makeup, even mascara; and the textured side exfoliates and deeply cleans - works even better when activated with water!
• UP&UP by Target exfoliating cucumber cleansing towelettes (same dual texture as the product I listed above except it is endured with aloe, greentea and cucumber to calm the skin and more inexpensive since it is targets brand)
• OLAY complete all day moisturizer .. It will give your skin all-day moisture, vitamin E, and UVA/UVB protection in a light, non greasy formula. You'll want to make this a part of your morning face routine after washing your face. *tip: washing your face in the morning with warm water opens your pores to get a deeper clean, then rinse with cold to seel pores. Apply moisturizer after cold water splash and before applying makeup.
• NEUTROGENA SkinClearing oil-free makeup .. You said you already wear cover girl but I'm telling you this is probably about the same price and literally does clear your skin while you wear it. It cover really well, too. I always washed my hands and just used my finger and tabbed it on and around the area I needed it at. It's the best.
-HOME REMEDIES-
• on red pimple spots, apply a drop of red-eye remover directly on the pimple to minimize the redness.
• make your own spot treatment with one aspiring crushed up and enough water until it becomes a thick paste. Apply it to a clean face on your pimple using a clean q-tip to reduce redness and size.
•drink plenty of water..your body lives off water- most of your body IS water. When you're thirsty, your body is cray water, not soda or juice or any other beverage. Therefore lots of water is an easy trick in getting and keeping a clean and clear face.
*TIP#2: don't over-wash your face. This will lead to and even worse broken out face. Only cleanse before going to bed making sure your face is makeup free and in the morning making sure you have a moisturizer on and the concealer I mentioned above.
P.s. I also know dermabrasion has something to do with fighting acne but haven't read enough into it. (it's the skin inside and egg).
Hope I helped Ben a little and sorry it's so long
