An object falls from a bridge that is 45 m above the water. It falls directly into a

small boat moving with constant velocity that was 12 m from the point of impact

when the object was released. Calculate the speed of the boat."

    Let,

    time, = t sec

    height = 45 m

    SO,

    45 = (1/2)(9.8)(t^2) = 4.9(t^2),

    t^2 = 45/4.9 = 9.124

    t = 3.03 sec

    boat-distance = 12 m

    boat-speed = 12/t = 12/3.03 = 3.96 m/sec >=========< ANSWER
