Why won't my computer mouse work?

Hi: I hooked up a new computer and pluged in 2 different mice in 4 different ports and it won't move.....what am I doing wrong? Usually the computer recognizes them.

    Whether your computer is a notebook or desktop; you should go to the BIOS settings by pressing F2 or DEL during the start up and look for the USB settings and ensure that they are enabled as well as having the "Plug and Play" enabled also.

    If you are unsure, check the motherboard manual or ask a friend or known associate that has I.T. knowledge and/or skills to make the changes for you.

    Also ensure that the drivers are up to date on your Windows installation.

    If your mouse is a wired mouse with a cord, and it is an optical mouse rather than a trackball version; then it should light up once you connect it. If it does not; then it is most likely that the port may be damaged in which case you can try to wiggle the connection where the cable is connected to. Or as previously mentioned, check your drivers.
