Should the constant changing of bats against the spinners/quicks be allowed in ODI?

Was puzzled and annoyed by the Indian batsmen repeatedly changing bats for the different bowlers and incessantly disrupting the flow of the game, until the radio commentators explained what the Indians were doing then I was merely irritated!

Should this be allowed and does it give an unfair advantage to the batsman?

Incidentally i was in the crowd and thought I was in Mumbai with sooo very many Indian supporters surrounding me, and I think outnumbering Aussies!

Was the entire Indian community of Adelaide at the match? ;>LOL

Well congratulations on finally winning a game and not putting on the usual abject and pathetic show as we saw here in the test!

Update:

They changed the bat about four times whenever the spinners came on.So I don't think they broke that many bats so quickly!

If the Adelaide Indian community is small then they certainly must have all been there!

It was a bad look, and smelled of very poor sportsmanship. Seemed to be more about disrupting the flow of play rather than any bat related issues. It's probably something that should be taken to the field umpires, to show why a new bat is required.

If the batsman feels uneasy with the bat, then he should be allowed to change it no doubt. There is no such rule to prevent batsmen from doing that. I don't think the Indians did that on purpose. Actually, when you are a fan of a particular team, whatever little things the opposition do irritates you. When your bowler sledges a batsman, its quite right for you but if the same thing happens to your batsman, you feel the bowler is nonsense. It happens and that's what happened with you in this case.

Keep it to T20. Lou Vincent does it in T20, he has a half length/double thick Mongoose bat (basically a club) that he pulls out when the spinners are on. That kind of thing is fine for T20 but in test or ODI just play with the bat you have, unless yuo break it of course.

I reckon it was a pretty poor effort. Bats don't break that often - light bat, heavy bat, light bat, heavy is tedious and against the spirit of the game.

Seems like unfair manipulation of the rules to me!
