How to use car speakers for a home audio and laptop build?
I have 2 new pairs of Lanzar opti 2 and 3 way components speakers (5 1/4's & 6x9's) that I won't be using because i've decided to go with 4 pairs of Cresendo mp6's and 4 extra tweeters (2 Crescendo xts and 2 Selenium dt150's).
I'm thinking about either building boxes for them or getting them premade if I can find some.
What I need to know is what materials that I need to covert the speakers into one badazz system for mainly laptop use to watch movies and play music and possibly for home audio.
What kind of amplifier would i need.....a car's or some other kind?
What kind of wires, jacks, just mainly everything it'll take for the builds.
Thanks

It's not practical to use car amplifiers in the house because you need too large a 12 volt power supply. You can do it with an AVR as long as the speaker impedance isn't too low. It will be ok if they are 4 ohms as long as you don't try to power more than one set at a time. If you only plan to use these for stereo not surround then you can just get a stereo amplifier. http://www.amazon.com/AudioSource-AMP-100-Stereo-P...
If you really want a "badazz" system however maybe you want to sell those speakers and buy some woofers midranges and tweeters from Parts Express http://www.parts-express.com/speakers.cfm

The laptop has some nice specs. My uncle bought the M1330 (13.3 inch version) and although it's fast, it feels like cheap plastic, because that's what it's basically made of. Don't expect to play any games for long if you don't get a 9-cell or higher battery. My uncles 6-cell only lasted 3.5 hours under medium use. 4GB might be overkill, but RAM these days is cheap and you'll need as much as you can with Vista. Th laptop has an HDMI output so all you need is to plug it into the HDMI of the TV you have. Don't expect to watch Blu-Ray movies if your TV isn't certified for HDCP (The DRM virus that you need for Blu-Ray and HD-DVD). Without HDCP certification for your video card and monitor you'll be stuck at watching movies with quality less than standard DVDs. EDIT: the only bottleneck is the videocard. It's great for the lower end of the midrange area. It can play Civilizations just fine, but other games will need something better.

That's a cool project. It seems like the most logical thing to do would be take the amplifier recommended for those speakers and modify it to fit your needs (whatever that may mean.)
I don't know much else, but I will be interested to see where you go with this

Just remember if you go along with this project that many laptops have a automatic sound leveling system built into the sound card which means if volume levels get to high then the system automatically lowers the bass, mid-range, treble, etc. to compensate volume distortion, and to keep you from going deaf if you wear headphones.
