45yo, father had abdominal aortic aneurysm. I'm having anesthesia in 5 weeks. Dangers?
my father's never ruptured but apparently he had one. I'm getting hip replacement in 5 weeks. yes I plan to talk to my primary and my surgeon, just soliciting opinions 1st. Will I need to be scanned for this too, pre-anesthesia? I am 45. No symptoms.

Although AAA can run in families, it's not a part of pre-anesthesia screening.
The risk of AAA rupturing would be increased if your BP got very high. Hip replacement anesthesia (either spinal - best anesthetic ever - or general) tends to lower blood pressure, so even if you have a small aneurysm, it's not going to be an issue.
If it's something you're worried about, it's pretty easy to see if you have an aneurysm or not. Talk to your primary care doc about it. Getting insurance to pay for the testing might be tricky, though, and it might raise your BP...

Hip surgery doesn't alter the risks of an abdominal aorta aneurysm so its not something that would be done routinely. If you want to have your abdominal aorta scanned, you probably would need to arrange for it to be done through a separate visit.
