I have a 8th grade math question please? Help?

I was solving this problem and this came up.

32-39/9.8-8.3 and i got -7/1.5

so how can i change the fraction to a whole number over a whole number.

another one i had was

0.3-5.7/48-13 i haven't solved it yet but i know its going to get a solution similar to the one above.

thanks in advance!

P.S. these are fractions :)

    -7/1.5 = -7/(3/2) = -7*2/3 = -14/3

Alternate method is multiply top and bottom by 10 to get rid of the decimal:

-70/15 = -14/3 since reduce by a factor of 5. You can do this since multiplying top and bottom by ten is multiplying the expression by 10/10 = 1 which is allowed.

    For the other one, -5.4/35 = -54/350 = -27/175

    Cheers!

Do you know yuo can move the DECIMAL POINT the same direction

and the same number of places as long as you do it in both the numerator

    and the denominator

    -7

    ----

    1.5

    -70

    ----

    15

    -14

    ----

    3

    OR .... - 4 2/3

    - 5.4

    ------

    35

    -54

    -----

    350

    -27

    ----

    175

    A PRESENT FOR YOU

Ask someone to write a number, say a five-digit number.

    (Can be a 2-digit.....3-digit.....4-digit....ect..…

    Suppose the number written is

    57836

Now, without showing the asker, you write a number on

a sheet of paper and keep it folded. You have to write the

number by subtracting 2 from the above number and

adding 2 in front which will be....

    257834

Next, ask the person to write another five-digit number

below his original number. Suppose he writes 37589.

    So you now have...

    57836

    37589

Now you write a five-digit number below it in such a

way that each digit is 9 minus digit above. You now have...

    57836

    37589

    62410

Ask the person to add one more 5-digit number. If he

adds 54732, you add below it 45267. Note that you decided

the number by subtracting each of his digit from 9.

    Thus, you now have.....

    57836

    37589

    62410

    54732

    45267

Next, ask him to add all the number and he gets 257834

Show him the number which you had written as an answer

to this addition earlier in the folded paper and surprise him.

    -7/1.5 multiply numerator and denominator by 10 = 70/15 = 14/3
