Car accident general damages?

I was in a hit and run crash with someone insured by state farm. (they got caught)

I was taken by ambulance to the hospital and was released the next day.

Both my knees had bad bruising (to this day), 8 chiropractor visits, lost 1 week of

school and work, and of course neck and back pain.

Now that it is time to settle, State farm is being extremely rude and

says that they are going to pay my medical bills and THE MAXIMUM

they can give for "general damages" is 2500. My medical bills are 3500

It has been 4 months, and I don't fell as if that is a good "top" offer..

Is that a good offer? If not, what should I ask for, and how?

PS - lawyers scare me
