HELP! My dog is aggressive to people and other animals?

My dog is around 5 years old. His name is Benny. He is a Jack Russell Terrier Mix. He looks like a dachshund at a glance. Adopted 3 days from today. He acts like an angel around me. And he allows me to enter his personal space...From eating, to sleeping to playing. But when it comes to other people such as my parents, he tends to bite them if they reach into his crate while he's in it. He allows them to be petted when he is out in the open in our living room or kitchen etc. But when it comes to playing toys, eating, sleeping or playing inside his crate ....he shows his teeth and growls and bites other people who isn't me. My parents took him to the Vet today, they couldn't do anything because he wouldn't let anyone touch him..he was aggressive towards all the people who tried weighing him and all that jazz. I love this dog already...i feel a strong bond between him and I. I would hate to return Benny, I don't even want to think about that. Is there any solution to this? Please I need HONEST straight from the soul ideas and opinions. ((P.S the people from the SPCA told me that he is aggressive towards other dogs. that's why I added that to the title. I have not witnessed my dog aggressive to other dogs since we haven't encountered one while walking yet.))

he is scared and trying NOT to show it....little dogs are known to be aggressive...he can be broken from it but it will take dedication and consistency...but i'm sure you can do it. i am sending you a link to cesar milians web site....he is the dog whisper on national geographic tv. search his site for books & videos....or just look around you can get a lot of tips from him without having to purchase anything....i have used MANY of his techniques and they work. just be patient and consistent...never show defeat and you will be fine. good luck to you.

Well...you did say you wanted an HONEST answer...mine is to return Benny. If even the vet can't handle him, he needs an expert to help him through his problems. If he bites anyone (neighbor, friend) your parents can be sued for a lot of money, and Benny would likely be put down. I know you don't want that to happen. You might see if there is a Jack Russell rescue in your city, and if so, that would be the best place to have him evaluated and re-homed, if they'll take him.

    Sorry.

Sounds like your dog needs a consistent firm leader. Jack russels are usually high energy dogs and require lots of exercise. Try taking him on a loooong walk and once he's tired out, he wont have enough energy to be aggressive. Since you really did just adopt him, he's probably getting used to his new surroundings !! You need to show him your the alpha, and showing aggression is not acceptable.

If I were you I would go to a dog trainer.. you really dont want a law suit on your hands.

You've only had him 3 days? If he keeps that up, you'll have to enrol in obedience training. But right now, he's just scared. You need to try to socialize him, get him used to your parents. For the crate, nobody should stick their hand in there. It should be his "safe place." Of course, you can, but nobody else.

well im no expert, but seeing that your dog is adopted, maybe he experienced cruelty at the hands of people in the past? since you adopted him and spend a lot of time with him, its natural that he feels comfortable with you. give him daily exercise, allow people to visit, but keep the numbers low. a lot of people at once could "scare" him and make him aggressive.

Have him put down, he's a menace.
