Some are. I know someone named Marilyn who goes by Mari (so Mary, spelt Mari because that's how it's spelt in the name Marilyn). I guess someone named Marilyn could also go by Lynn.

Sometimes it just depends on her preference I would listen to what her friends call her or just ask her she may go by anything maybe een nothing related to the name at all I know someOne who's name is Allison but goes by Abby

It varies, some do and some call them Lynn it is a matter of choice, what suits them best really.
