Issue with storage on iPhone / iCloud?

I can't download any apps or update them. I've deleted loads of apps and it still says that there isn't enough storage. It says that I have 4.5GB available of 5GB. It can't be mail because I don't have a @me account. I can't find where iCloud stores your info(pictures, apps etc). The homepage just says mail, contacts, calendar, find my iPhone and iWork. When connected to my laptop, the device has 2.3 GB free. Does any one know what the issue is here?

    go to apple store or consult with any one whose having same gadget
