Child Locks on Ford looking for a fix for existing problem.?

I have a Ford Expedition 2001 with the Child Locks. Right Rear Door Only has problem. I have gone to the bottom of the door and moved it to the off position where they are not supposed to work. I can sit in it and open and close the door. I drive somewhere and I can no longer open it from the inside after driving. Only from the outside.

Any suggestions, or am I just going to have to remove the Door panel and disconnect the child lock hardware.

Had a 91 Explorer that did the same thing. Right Rear Door. Did not worry about it as I did not have children at that time.

Have not had the same problem, but does the child lock tab actually move from the unlocked (child lock disengaged) position to the locked (child lock engaged) position? Would wedging something under the tab to keep it from moving be a quick and dirty solution? If the tab says it is in the unlocked position, yet the door still locks from the inside, then I'd say yes, it is time to pull the panel and take a look (or disengage it).

    Ford Fiesta Door Lock Problems

It appears that numerous other people have had the same problem yet Ford claims there is no issue, bulletin or recall. From the other responses, it appears that spraying the child lock area down with WD-40 helps and some have used tape to keep the lock button in place. If those fail, you can remove the door trim and try to adjust the lock rod involved. You may want to call Ford or NHTSA and get a case file started which may add to complaints and start a safety recall or at least a repair bulletin.

    One suggestion....

"DO NOT REMOVE YOUR DOOR PANEL like I did. Nothing is wrong with your car. Just remove the black plastic around the child safety lock, then douse that area real good with WD-40. Work the lock up and down 50-60 times. Climb in the car, shut the door. Open the door. Good as new. "
