Anyone ever gotten drunk while pregnant? If so, what happened?
My bff just found out she is pregnant, which is great. Unfortunately, she went out with friends and on a drinking binge (8 shots) while about 10-12 weeks pregnant (not knowing). She's now worried sick. Anyone do something similiar and not have any problems with the baby?
Obviously, I am not advocating drinking during pregnancy because of all the health risks. I know drinking while pregnant is BAD. I'm just trying to give my bff some real data to comfort her while she waits the eight months to see if the baby is okay.
For the record, her periods are always very irregular.

shes fine. just think there are people that drink, do drugs, jump around and everything else your not suppose to do and find out there pregnant months into it. and there are people who are pregnant and still smoke through out the whole thing.....even know there not good, the babys turn out alright and healthy (i dont know how).
Its common for some women to not know, the baby will be alright. just no more drinking for the next 7 to 8 months :)
good luck :)

you're right. Alcohol isn't great, but the good news is constant, moderate exposure is what is the most damaging. 8 shots would get the baby drunk, but if she hadn't drunk anything more afterwards then it would be metabolized and completely removed from her and baby's body before it had the time to bring about developmental changes. If it's not a regular thing, then baby should be completely fine if he or she was healthy before this happened. If there was a kidney or liver problem which alcohol could cause real problems they'll show up at the 20 month anatomical scan. Just remind yourself and her that what's done is done, it's out of her body now and out of the baby's body, but stress is horrible for unborn babies. So she needs to relax about it and move on. That's what her baby needs her to do. And ideally, never let it happen again. And also, make sure that that little binge didn't deplete her body of nutrition and vitamins, so to stay eating healthy.
In short, no it wouldn't have CAUSED any problems. But doing it over and over very well could. And drinking later on after 32 weeks can impact on baby's neurological and brain chemistry.
