dog is scared of storm.. acting very weird?
Alright, I woke up a few hours ago and went to feed my dog outside, it was raining and as soon as i opened up the door she forced herself inside, almost knocking me down. She ran into my parents room and laid in the corner. Its been storming outside and she seems really afraid. She doesn't want to leave the corner and is shaking and panting really hard. she isnt thirsty though. she is an outside dog but we're letting her stay in until she calms down. what can we do? I finally managed to get her to come lay on the side of the couch next to me, and i put a blanket down for her. Keep in mind, that she is 70 pound catahoula so I can't exactly hold her and comfort her like a lap dog. Is she going to be ok?

She'll be fine. It's not uncommon for dogs to be afraid of thunder and gunshots, and backfires, etc. Both my 60# Boxers are afraid of storms, too. They are inside dogs (I won't own a dog if I have to keep it outside - but that's just me) I set down in my double recliner/love seat and get one on each side of me & we ride out the thunder together. The cuddling does all of us some good. It gives us even more reason to interact. You might try that more often. It would be good for you, as well as calm the dog.

I heard once (I think this was from my grandparents) that if you take two fingers and stroke your dog in small circles gently it can calm them might not work for all though, i used to do it with my dog who was also scared of storms, there isn't a lot you can do, just make them feel comfortable really until the storm passes.
You can also get tablets for this sort of thing, so if you needed an option for when another storm comes just visit the vet and see if you can pick some up.

She'll be fine. Once the storm ends she'll probably forget it ever happened. :) Just make sure to watch her while it's storming, because some dogs will start destroying things (curtains, pillows, etc.) if they are scared during a storm. This is especially true if you leave the dog alone in the house. Other than that, it's nothing to worry about, she's just a little scared!

I have a Cataloula who is petrified of storms and two Aussies that are also.
You will have to make room for her inside at least on days that it is going to rain or storm. She is in fear and keeping her outside during a storm is well, cruel.
This is not something she will overcome. You will have to learn to live with her.

Same here, my dogs petrified of storms, the worst thing you can do is comfort her constantly, I know it sounds awful but our dog trainer told us this and now my dog has conquered his fear of fireworks! If you start to comfort them then they will immediately thing that something IS wrong, but if you go about your normal life, then they will get the idea that its fine. Cuddle up with her on the sofa and put the TV on, she will like to be near you to feel safe, just don't comfort her too much. I know it was hard for me to leave my dog alone during firework night! But he is fine now and enjoys it like the rest of the family :)

i've got self belief the ghost/spirit element, in spite of the indisputable fact that there could be different issues scaring your dogs besides. attempt to establish a small nighttime cam or some thing so which you are going to see if there could be something happening. That habit sounds like a reaction to somebody or some thing.

it is perfectly normal for dogs to be scared of storms dogs sense things before we do and he is panting because he is scared and that is how he is calming himself. he may or may not get over his fear, I had a Chow that never did every time it stormed she come running and jumped in my bed and there was no getting her out until the storm was over,She even reacted like that to loud noises like firecrackers.

She will be fine. She can probably hear distant thunder and lightening that you can't hear. Just let her go where she feels more comfortable. Mine would hide in her crate and if I put a blanket over it she was more comfortable that way.
