if you multiply 6 ft*80ft, is that 5760 in or 69120 in (convert to inches first?) also, GEOMETRY HElp!!!!?

Cans to store food are made from rectangular sheets of tin that measure 6 feet by 80 ft. A standard tin can measures about 4.5 inches tall and has a circumference of aobut 9.5 inches. Asuuming there is as 5% area added to each piece (2 lids and one lateral piece) for overlap to seal the can shut, how many complete cans can be made from one sheet of tin? EXTRA BONUS: how much tin is wasted?

    6 ft*80ft means, it is an area. Therefore 6 ft*80ft = 6*12 inches * 80*12 inches = 69120 square inches.

    Now the next question:

    Surface Area of 1 can = 9,5*4.5 = 42.75 sq in

    Added area = 5% * 42.75 sq in = 2.1375 sq in

    Total material used for 1 can = 42.75 + 2.1375 = 44.89 sq in

    # of complete cans = 69120 sq in / 44.89 sq in = 1539 cans

    Tin consumed in making 1539 cans = 1539*44.89 = 69085.71 sq in

    Tin wasted = 69120 - 69085.71 = 34.29 sq in

    Hope this helps.
