How did we go from Nixon to Santorum?
Seriously, Tricky Dick wasn't the greatest President ever, but he was good enough, despite being considered a far right winger at the time, he had ideas, he embraced intellectuals like Kissinger and was dedicated to realpolitik (Google it) now we have Rick Santorum who spurns facts and (climate change, benefits of contraception etc) and blames gays and fictitious satanists for out problems.
How did this happen to the GOP?

You haven't gone to Santorum yet. He will never get far by hating women and sex.

Nixon was a progressive. He was not a conservative. He did some really off the wall stuff like price controls.
This nation used to be very religious as a whole. You may be too young to remember. There is nothing extreme about Santorum to many people over 40. People my age can't help but see how our society has degenerated. There is really no other word for it. Just look at what's on tv and how it effects our young people. Really disgusting.
