how much space does a hermit crab need?

Just one. Like the absolute smallest it would need to live.

The absolute smallest enclosure a hermit crab can live in is a ten gallon glass aquarium. They also need more than one to live properly. If they don't have a tankmate, they will stress out and die. Please research online if you are considering these pets.
