Joffrey Ballet or Chicago Ballet?

I agree with Emily923 for the most part, but wouldn't pass up PNB or SAB for it. The Joffrey NYC is not affiliated with the Joffrey ballet. Only the Chicago Joffrey SI is. Ballet Chicago is a good solid SI program.

* Small anecdote- Many years ago my daughter got a full scholarship to the Joffrey NYC SI. True it is not the same program then that it is today. They have had many different artistic directors and the program keeps changing. In any event, she hated the SI program so much that she dropped out and just took classes at STEPS until her August SI program started. It was so crowed at the barre for afternoon ballet classes because they combined classes, that there was no room to move and she felt it was a total waste of her time. I did hear that they have new studios now in an additional location, but the only thing about this school that is Joffrey is the name. They were able to keep it, because this is where the original school was. Again, they have nothing to do with the Joffrey ballet. Only the Chicago Joffrey ballet school does.

Honestly, I think Ballet Chicago would be better than all the Joffrey intensives you listed. If you were considering Joffrey Chicago though, that would be different. I know kids who have passed up PNB and SAB for Ballet Chicago. Ballet Chicago is very Balanchine.

Joffrey ballet is a very good school as well as a company. But I haven't heard anything bad about either one of them. But, you do have more experience with Joffrey ballet.
