Why did Western society become so vigorous and creative in the centuries after about 1450?
Why was it that the West rose in that period and not one of the other civilizations? (Think about whether cultural change or economic change came first. Why no other civilizations? The best answers will probably explore the lack of comparable problems and thus less urgency to change as much as to reach political and economic goals.)
I need help writing this essay. I'm not sure what the main ideas I should be writing about are or how to start it off, if anyone can help me with that. Thank you.

Well, let me correct you on one thing. Western Civilization is the latecomer. Muslim Civilization was far more vigorous and intellectual, Chinese civilization beats us for longevity and invention, Egypt has all of them defeated but was defeated in turn by lack of iron. It is racist and ignorant to think that Western civ is in any way superior or more vigorous.
For most of its short history, Western Civ as we know it was dirty, backwards, and mired in superstition. The Church held it in a headlock. The bubonic plague sort of destroyed that. 1/3 of the population died, which raised many questions about the rightness of the church. People began to think for themselves. There was an abundance of food, and we entered into a period of gentle climate. As soon as people began to split (somewhat) from the church, science began to evolve. People looked back to the classical civilizations and then built on the knowledge that had been lost when Rome fell. Of course there was a backlash, in the form of the Inquisition. We owe much to Henry 8's lust for Anne Boleyn, which allowed Protestantism to take hold in England. Protestants believed that you did not need a priest or a pope to communicate with god, and were generally freer thinkers than Catholics, more tolerant of "heresies" like science, math, and reading.
The SINGLE greatest reason why the west "rose" was the trans-Atlantic slave trade. That Columbus "discovered" America, that other explorers "discovered" Africa, and that we had made use of the Chinese invention of gunpowder collided and allowed Europeans to begin this deplorable trade. It was so profitable because slaves were generally all dead within four years of being stolen from Africa. Europeans started plantations (especially important were the new commoditites of sugar and tobacco, which spread and became very fashionable in Europe.) Planters had only a very small expense compared to their profits, which were sent back to Europe. The great mercantile and banking houses started off by financing slave ships. Traders sold cheap, barely usable guns, pastes (like the kinds in little girls fake jewelry) and other shabby goods in exchange for African slaves. They armed some Africans and sent them after the others Entire African civilzations fell. Some suspect that 400 million Africans were taken, and sold for 50-200 pounds a piece depending. Planters had to buy entire new slave labor forces every few years, so brutally were the slaves used. Lloyds of London got it's start insuring slave ships. Every lord in England invested in the trade, which was why William Wilberforce faced an impossible task trying to end slavery. Profits from the SLAVE TRADE gave Europe the edge over other cultures.
this is only a taste. You need to look this stuff up and form your argument. You want to write a killer paper? Focus on the truth of it. Frankly, once we Europeans cast off the church, we shaped our own morality and made it convenient for us to exploit the rest of the world in a way unknown to mankind until that moment. This is not Anti-Western, it is just the truth.

Christianity had a giant affect on charity paintings and missionaries. Christianity used to be actually the one faith (on the time) that believed in spreading the religion during the whole international. Through their missionaries they noticed plenty of desperation I'm certain, and I can most effective logically anticipate that Jesus' message helped combine within the charitable efforts that we see at present. I'm no longer a Catholic, however it is a proven fact that the Catholic Church is essentially the most charitable group on the earth through a ways, with the opposite Christian denominations following at the back of. As a ways as legislation is going, adultery used to be against the law and nonetheless is in such a lot states (despite the fact that hardly ever enforced). Liquor legislation had been installed location, and so forth. I'd love to suppose that the ten commandments had plenty to do with a few western legislation. In any occasion, the ten commandments are located in universally each and every western tradition. It's secure to mention that during Europe, some of the extra socialist leaning states would have used Jesus as a affirmation in their politics. (Although I'm a conservative and do not suppose Jesus cared in any respect approximately politics) And the whole thing Rico JPA mentioned, besides I do not trust the parable facet.
