hello!my granddaughter is going to be born anytime, in berlin. im starting a lottery as to what day, time,?

weight and length. all i could think of for scoring is who has the LEAST ammount of points. for example, if they guess 7 oz. and she's 8 oz. ~ then they are 16 ozs away, thus -16 points. if they guess 19" and she's 20" ~ then they are 1" away, and im doing 1 point off for each 1/4" they are off...so that would be -4 points. my problem is, i could only figure out how to do negative points and whoever gets the LEAST amount of points, wins. i know there must be a way to figure it out whoever gets the MOST points, but for the life of me i could not figure it out! do YOU know? THANKS!

You've got a fairly simple plan. Just keep it simple, and everything will work out fine.

Forget about any negative numbers. EVERYTHING the person guesses wrong gets worked out to be a positive number. Here are the points people will get:

1 point per ounce that they are off.

1 point per 1/4" that they are off.

1 point per hour that they are off.

That's the MOST simple, but I'm actually going to suggest something else that will put a little less weight into the time and weight, especially since you're going down to the ounce.

    I'd go with this instead:

1 point per ounce they are off.

2 points per 1/4 inch they are off.

1 point per hour they are off.

OK, so who's going to win? Simple. The person with the LOWEST total number. Here are 2 people's guesses, for example:

Person A guesses 8 lbs., 3 oz., 14 1/2 inches, and this Friday at 9:00 AM.

Person B guesses 6 lbs., 14 oz., 12 1/4 inches, and this Thursday at 1:00 PM.

Actual baby comes out as: 7 lbs., 6 oz., 13 inches exactly, this Friday at 1:00 A.M.

Person A gets 13 points for weight, 12 points for length, and 8 points for time/date.

Person B gets 8 points for weight, 6 points for length, and 12 points for time/date.

Person A has 33 points total. Person B has 26 points total. Person B wins.

This is very simple. If folks can't accept the fact that the person with the lowest amount of points wins, then just tell everyone that they are all starting with 200 points. Subtract their missing amounts from 200, and that's their final score.

In this case, Person A ends up with 167 points, and Person B ends up with 174 points. Still, Person B wins.
