HP Pavilion dm4 not performing critical battery action?
Hey there,
So I have the defaults set for all of my battery options on my HP Pavilion dm4 laptop. But out of nowhere, without changing anything, my computer stopped doing the low battery actions seemingly overnight. I used to get a notification saying I had 12% battery left, then a popup saying I had 9% left, then the computer would hibernate. Now, nothing happens until the computer just runs out of power. When I try to turn it back on after plugging it in, everything's gone, I get the message about turning off the computer incorrectly, and I have to start up the computer all over again. My settings are these(Same for battery and plugged in):
Low Battery: 12%
Low Battery Notification: On
Low Battery Action: Do Nothing
Reserve Battery Level: 9%
Critical Battery Level: 7%
Critical Battery Action: Hibernate
I can't think of a single thing that could've made the sudden overnight change. Any help?

Before spending money on a new battery or charger, try following simple fixes to see if the problem goes away.
Remove the battery and charger/ac adapter/power cord from your laptop, press and hold the power button for 20 seconds to discharge any residual current inside the laptop. This clears your RAM and is like a hardware reset. Replace the battery and charger/ac adapter/power cord and turn your laptop on.
If the problem persists, did you check if it could be your laptop power cord or power source problem? Insufficient power might cause error messages that are misleading. Take the battery out and power on your laptop with the charger only. Make sure your laptop power jack and charger plug tip are securely connected. Did you notice the power jack loose? You can find laptop power jack on ebay. Fixing and soldering the power jack requires professional skill though. Also the charger green/blue LED should be on. If not, replace the defective charger. laptop charger has its own lifespan and does not last forever, consider buying a lifetime warranty charger online from company like topmic.com
