ive read the book, but have difficulty putting it all together. What is the plot of this book? thanks!

Summarized? Survival. Also, I'd say that as it's the first book, its purpose is to get you used to her world, life, and then there's the fact that she wants to get back to her brother as quickly as possible. The overall plot has more to do with finding a way to extend their lives though--or at least, I think so.
