your statement is correct. for people with nothing other than whats called a spherical prescription or "no astigmatism", the prescription itself wont be altered until it goes about +/- 4.00 DS.

However, there are still other factors that go into a contact lens presciption including the curvature of your eye which needs to be tested for, otherwise the lens may move too much because they're too loose and irritate your eyes or choke your eyes because they are too tight.

Definitely goto your local optometrist to get your eyes fitted properly for contacts. gernerally if you already have a recent glasses prescription its fairly cheap to do.

Ask any optician and they should be able to give you an answer and point you to the correct contacts.

contact lens perscriptions are different but they also include information on the fitting. You need a fitting to wear contact lenses safely and its illegal to supply contacts in teh UK and US without such a fitting.

Therefore if you want to use contacts safely you need to go and get a fitting which should include trials. You will then get a perscription and can buy online if you want. Simply buying contacts using your glasses perscription is dangerous and will nto give you working comfortable safe lenses.
