Fan base! The more fans your band gets, the more likely you are to sign with a record label. Once you sign, the fame comes with the territory. Self-promote your band (print up fliers for your upcoming shows, let all your friends know about your shows via facebook, twitter or another social site, even open a website that's strictly for your band)... once your band has become acknowledged locally, ask your local community college to air your tunes through their radio broadcasting department/course (that way, you can expand your fan base even more)... once you guys start getting some recognition, you may have some scouters from record labels seek you out to view a show. Its a LONG and hard process, but not impossible. One thing about the entertainment business, theres never any grantees. Hard work doesn't go unnoticed
