80 points LaGuardia question?
Hello, I'm new to Yahoo Answers and I signed up for Yahoo Answers to ask these questions so I don't need my points, I am in seventh grade so I know that my grades this year go to high school. I want to get in for the Drama/Theater program. Here are my questions.
1. Does language count for the grades? The language class I take is Spanish and I get in the 70's.
2. If you audition and another person gets the same audition score that I have, do they compare grades. For example: Sarah has a 90 average. Sam has a 93 average. They both score the same audition score. Does Sam get in and not Sarah?
How do I give a person points for best answer? Is there a limit for how much points you can give on Yahoo Answers? I want to know because like I said, I'm new here and I want to give you the points I promised.

You get to choose the best answer and the responder gets 10 points. You can't give away extra points. Anyway, points or not, here's the answer to your questions as well the link so you can see for yourself:

1. Language does not count. You have to have at an 80 minimum in 4 core courses: Humanities, Math, Science, and Social Studies and a minimum of 2 on the NYS Standardized Tests. They will ask you to bring in the most current 8th grade report card also, so don't slack off.
2. Auditions are ranked in order of excellence, then they check to make sure you meet the academic requirements. A 93 overall average does not trump a 90, unless it was the very last seat available.
3. Go to the LaGuardia high school website and check out the audition requirements if you haven't already. The mistake most students make is not following the audition requirements.
Be sure to get the High School Directory from your guidance counselor in June so that you can check all the requirements and audition dates. In late September/early October, make sure you sign up for an audition ticket with your guidance counselor.

1. No, your foreign language grades are not counted as part of your admissions requirements. The only academic requirements are:
Grades:
English:(80-100)
Math:(80-100)
Social Studies:(80-100)
Science:(80-100)
Standardized Test Scores:
Math Level(s): 2-4
English Language Arts Level(s): 2-4
Requirements:
Review of Attendance & Punctuality
Writing Sample
I took this right off the Laguardia page in the high school directory. But truthfully, I don't think they really look at the writing sample. I'm not sure they always even ask for it! (Supposedly everyone is asked to write some thing on the day of the audition, but I'm not sure this always happens.)
These grades are, of course, no guarantee that you'll get in. They are just the minimum. Without these grades, you CAN'T get in. But if you DO have them, then they judge you based on your audiion.
As far as the scoring of the audition goes, this is, of course, dependent on the person doing the judging. They will come up with a ranking of the kids who auditioned one way or the other, based on their own judgement. I wouldn't get too caught up in the details. They are unimportant. Just do your best.
And you can only give someone 10 points for a correct answer. I'm just telling you because you asked. I answer many questions about NYC public high schools and particularly about Laguardia. So I don't really mind who you pick. I'm just answering your question because kids need to understand the high school admission process.
