Why isn't Kobe mentioned in the MVP race?

He definitely should be. Kobe is averaging 29-6-5 at 33 years old, 16 years in the league, with a broken nose, concussion, torn ligaments in his wrist, a twisted finger, and coming off of knee surgery in the summer. Plus, the team is only 2.5 games out of 2nd place in the West, they can win the Pacific, and they still have an outside chance of catching OKC, at 6 games behind. Kobe has willed this team in spite of aging players, and in spite of the trade of Lamar Odom. Kobe is definitely more deserving than Prince James, and as great as Durant is, he does not have the credentials that Kobe has. Pound for pound, Kobe is the true MVP.

Usually, I like to get all fundamental and dig deep into things, but this is actually pretty simple

Durant has Westbrook, and LeBron has Wade

True, Kobe has Bynum/Gasol, but Westbrook and Wade are two legitimate MVP candidates on their own, Bynum/Gasol aren't.

And Derrick Rose's team as a whole is a great defensive team.

That leaves Kobe, once again, to win MVP

Because the Lakers record ain't so hot as Heat's or Bull's or OKC's.

But I agree. He's definitely in the race. He's playing terrific despite all the injuries and the wear and tear on his body of 16 years in the NBA.

One reason most people are overlooking him is because both Durant and LeBron are leading their teams to two of the best records in the league. The Lakers are in the middle of the pact.

And from an efficiency standpoint, LeBron is having the best season of all-time.

You have to lead your team to one of the best records in the league to be considered mvp worthy

He is he's the top scorer and way more valuable to his team than Durant and Lebron

They will never catch OKC , Kobe usually ballhogs , takes horrible shots , and shoots a bad %

He also only scores , while lebron scores as much with far less shots and 8 rebounds and assists
