The Federal government has NO legitimate authority to order ANY business to give ANY benefit.

No more than any religion that forces it's way into public schools but denies any other religions the same access. Or perhaps because any religion that has employees is a business just as any volunteer or non profit is still a business Not a from a liberal stand point which everyone seems to think but instead it's reality. Besides what right does any religion have to say it's followers are dumb or immoral that they cannot choose to make decisions on their own? This does not strengthen my faith in my Church but instead makes most of followers feel like we're just stupid and incapable. This was NEVER about religious freedom but about control and money. I believe in my God and I'm not an idiot either but I may never attend any Church that calls me incapable but yet encourages me to have children while working and supporting my Church. Classic. Have children even though as women your simply to dumb to have any moral understanding on your own so let us fix that for you. Thanks my religious leaders for your kind and supportive attitude.

I have a problem with a foreign king (the Pope) forcing Americans to not have access to contraception and abortificent drugs against the principles of freedom and democracy. So yes, the federal government does have the perogative to ensure that every American has access to medical care, and to force the provision thereof, even of some foreign religious king prohibits it.
And that's what we're talking about here... a king in the Vatican ordering Catholics to be against this stuff. He could change his mind tomorrow and you wouldn't even ask this question.
Given that Canada has fully socialized medicine and lower unemployment than the US, it's fair to say that this kind of legislation does not, in fact, kill jobs.

"forcing people to ignore own morals?"
Jehovah's Witnesses don't believe blood transfusions are morally right. Faith Healers don't believe in Western Medicine. Where do you draw the line, especially given church institutions don't have to pay for it as of right now?
"But I have a problem with the President of United States forcing self-insured Catholic Institutions being forced to provide abortificent drugs against their conscientious objections."
Good, then you should have no problem with the compromise, since provision of contraceptive will be paid for by the insurance companies in this situation.

First, this "law" was not designed as a "jobs" law.
Second, the law applies to all employers, we don't pick and choose what companies the laws apply to.
Third, no Catholic institution is forced to do any such thing, the compromise passed the demand on to the insurance companies.
Fourth, this mandate (not a law) neither creates nor destroys jobs, if you can prove otherwise I'd like to read about it. Post a link.
And fifth, there is nothing unconstitutional about the mandate.

So, a religious organization like the Christina Scientists, who don't believe in ANY medicine, can choose to offer or cover NOTHING for ANY of their employees?
And you're ok with that?
Or a Catholic organization can choose to not cover AIDS drugs or treatment, or hysterectomies, or surgery for testicular cancer?
EMPLOYERS do not have to abandon their "conscience"; but as long as they accept Federal money, they should follow Federal rules.

Yes, they are trying to destroy the institutions that challenge Obama's beliefs.
PS Federal law also allows employees who have religious or moral objections to the death penalty to opt out of attending or working at executions. Do liberals want this law changed too?

So you are saying you would support a Muslim business owner forcing his employees, many of whom are not Muslim, to abide and conform to his notion of medical insurance based on his beliefs of Sharia Law?
- ?Lv 79 years ago
No. It doesn't. Employers hire people to make money, not to inflict their morals on them via a healthcare plan.
