What makes a person average?

Well, that differs in different cultures and places. Being average is basically bowing to the general consensus of behaviour and activities in your societies, wherever you live.

But don't be normal. Being normal sucks. If you want to be a 'somebody', you've got to be weird or unusual. So, for instance, being exceptionally good at something makes you weird. And to be good at something, you have to learn about it an practice it, which is something 90% of people can't be bothered to do.

I read Encyclopaedia's at the weekends. Nobody else in my class at my school does that, but me doing that makes me more knowledgeable than the others in my class, and that will help me through my entire life.

So be as weird as you can. It helps.

Average is just a tool for trying to aggregate the population.

It keeps a scale that you must somehow measure up to you.

I get that in some situations it's important to understand the comparison.

Mostly, however, i get the feeling that it eschews individuality in favour of penning everyone into the same boxed enclosure.

Then again, in the same breath, being called "average" is a pejorative.

Society can be so cruel.

I guess I'm just your average Joe.
