Naming children names used in the Twilight series?
Hello,
My first child is named Belle. I'm going to be having my second soon, a boy. My husband and I have agreed that we want to name him Emmett, because we both love the name, especially because it isn't that common.
I was talking to my best friend about it, and she commented how they are two names used in Twilight. (Well, Bella instead of Belle, but still.)
I have absolutely nothing against twilight, but I do not want people thinking I've named my children after those books.
Do you think many people will come to that conclusion? I mean, it's not like the names are ridiculous are anything, and my daughter isn't even named Bella.
Thanks for your input! ( :
By the way- I've never read the books (or watched the movies), so there was no influence there. Belle's name was actually slightly influenced by the disney princess, haha( :
And no, if I end up having a third child, he/she will not have another name featured in twilight. So no worries there!

I absolutely see what you're saying. Automatically people assume, "Hey! Twilight fan! Wow, you must be so obsessed!" But, to be honest, a book shouldn't ruin those names for you! They ARE pretty and unique names. They sound elegant.
Sure, Twilight could have been a little bit of a contributing factor, as it brought some slightly unpopular names into the light, but that does not been that you named your children because Stephanie Meyer likes those names, ya know? It's not like that's the only conclusion, and people should realize that.
All I gotta say is, if/when you have another child, you miiight not wanna use another name from Twilight. That could perhaps be pushing it a little. :)
Ultimately, it's up to you. That's just my humble, non-expert opinion ;D I sincerely hope that helps!

I love Emmett, but personally I wouldn't use the name with Belle because of the connotation.
And while later in their lives, the Twilight connection will inevitably wear off, for the first few years, you'll hear a lot of "Ohh, like the Twilight books", and probably some vampire references.
I would say, yes, people will come to the twilight conclusion.
But they're your kids, so you're allowed to name them whatever you want. If you're totally set on and in love with the name Emmett, go for it! You don't have to please anybody other than yourself!

I don't think that will be the first thing that comes to everyones mind, but even if it is...who cares! First of all..you can name your babies anything you want and take names from any inspiration you have. Sio it doesn't really matter if you take names from a movie or not. People need to get over it. And you need to stop worrying and letting such silly things get to you.
I love the name Renesmee. Sure, I got it from the book...and i might possibly use it one day. But i could have gotten it from a mixture of a family members name and a favorite historical person..you know? Don't let what people say get to you. And if they say anything then just say something like " just because my sons name is also the name of a character in a movie, doesnt mean i used it because of that..get over it"

You may get a lot of comments now, but I can't imagine people even thinking of the movie in 10 or so years, and then for the wrest of your kids lifetime there on, people will forget about it. Plus you just like the names, and they are very nice classic names, so you should stick with them and not let a teen fad influence your choice. I love pretty much all of the names in Twilight, I don't like the move but I wouldn't hesitate to use any of the names.

It's not a problem... you've chosen great names. I think naming a child after someone in a book is nice anyway. If you named your daughter Catherine (Wuthering Heights) or Charlotte (Charlotte's Web), etc. that's fine and should not be an issue with people. The Twilight names will mostly likely be much less common in a few years anyway.

I think as long as its not edward your fine emmett is really cute and uncommon go for it... but it might become more common with the lovers of the book series growing up to baby bearing age!

Belle and Emmett are beautiful names. NAME YOUR CHILD WHAT YOU WANT! I agree with somebody above me. In 10 years nobody will look at your teenage children and judge them because of Twilight.
Please.

Uhh Noo.... and even if they think that to hell with those people who cares? It's just a name and besides Twilight isn't the first book with the character name Emmett who happens to be top seller...
And Just to let you know Twilight is a great book who cares what people think... people will always hate and haters gonna hate... they will keep on hating

I would avoid it, since many people will naturally make the connection to Twilight which is, truly, not a good thing. Twilight is a book filled with racism, stereotypes, sexism, chauvinism, paedophilia, teen pregnancy, glamorized teen suicide and disturbing religious overtones. That's not a connection you really want with your children.
My advice would be to choose something similar like Everett.

The names aren't so important really, but when Belle grows up you may want to make sure her future boyfriend isn't covered in glitter and wears dark clothes....that -may- cause a connection.
