Is Carmelo Anthony declining?

IMO Carmello is starting to look like Tracy McGrady trying to make a comeback. A few flashes of former greatness, yet far from the same player.

The way Melo left Denver convinced me that he was a selfish player, and wile I viewed him as the best scorer in the game behind Kobe and Kevin Durant, I never viewed him as a "gut your team" franchise player like I view the old Shaq, the old Kevin Garnett, and the current Lebron James.

How do you leave a team that was two wins away from the NBA Finals to go to a team that hadnt made the playoffs in 7 years? Because its New York, and you care more about your brand than winning.

He's fat, his game is one dimensional, he doesn't defend, and doesn't make his team better.

Am I being to hard on him or do you agree?

Carmelo can be a lazy player at times. He is not that bad of a defender, but he is lazy on defense. I've seen him play good defense before, infact he is one of the better players at defending LeBron.

I don't think he is declining. I think he is trying to learn how to play team ball...When in the past all of his effort, was put into scoring.

Its about time somebody finally realised this. I didnt mind Anthony before the "Melodrama" but you nailed it on the head. Why leave Denver arguably the 2nd best team in the West to join Amar'e in Mike D'antoni's all offense/no defense system. At least Lebron, Bosh and KG where going to their new clubs to win, not for a better lifestyle.

Dont get me wrong in crunch time Melo is one of the best players to have the ball in his hands and he still is one of the best scorers in the league but thats a major part of the problem, he doesnt do anything else. No Defense, no passing and when he isnt at his best and his team is losing he will continue to keep chucking up shots. People say "go easy on him because he isnt adjusting to his new system" but the truth is that he hasnt done anything to try and adjust even when a much needed starting calibre point guard falls into his lap.

Go easier on Lebron, Melo is the guy who should be feeling the pressure from his fans and growing number of skeptics.

I think you have a right to your opinion. But to say he is declining is a little far from the truth. He is struggling to fit in to a different type of offense. He has the ability as we all know to defend, because he is one of LBJ toughest defenders, but his consistency lacks on defense. I have noticed him not playing hard on ever possession and retorts to the jumpshot instead of using his size to dominate the paint. He is a SCORING forward so his job is to score. I think if he had worked on his conditioning during the lockout he would have that second wind to give his team a boost in the 4th quarter as well. On the Nuggets he was the go to guy but on the Knicks with Amare, Lin, and Chandler as options his role isn't only to score, so he has to find other ways to contribute which he has yet to do.

I agree on everything you said (expect declining)

XLR8 dude How the fvck did Vince turn "basic"?????? He averaged well over 20 PPG with Nets and made 3 more all-star appearances. He started falling off after 2010

i give him the benefit of the doubt, he dont fit with his coach system, do you remember when D antnoi was with the suns? you do right? how melo fit in that? not at all...so yeah i still think if he play with the right rotation he can do better..however i agree with you his selfish...not on the court really...well just a lil ex of selfishness (big baby davis)...hes definitely ont on kevin and shaq category and not really on lebron category when it comes to making teammates better....i think his wife was a big influence on him moving to NY, plus hes from here too...BTW is a shame that he dont defend he definitely has the body and talent but hes lazy too...CRAZY. well thats all

It's hard to say that he's declining since he's only 27, but I think he is struggling to fit in with D'Antoni's system. He even admitted after last night's loss that he was "lost."

Whatever the situation is, he needs to step it up and play better. He looked more interested in jawing with Marion than he did helping his team win.

And I agree with everything you said. You are not being too hard on him.

No. He just is having a off season because of injuries and limited practice(because of the condensed schedule) time with teammates with has lead 2 guys not being on the same page.

Completely agree, you said exactly what i was thinking about a week ago, and i think chemistry plays a big part, and he hogs the ball to much.

No, he is just struggling to fit in with the Knicks, bad chemistry.Happens to a lot of guys when they get traded.

Devin Harris - Allstar with Nets, basic player for Jazz

Vince Carter - Allstar with Raptors, next team he turns basic

Antawn Jamison - Allstar with Wizards, average for Cavs.
